New Podcast! Relationships, Sex and Disability

18/09/2019

Avenues has a brand new podcast episode! This month in support of Sexual Health Week 2019 we look at relationships, sex and sexuality for those with learning disabilities.

Statistics reveal that only 3% of people with learning disabilities live as a couple according to 70% of the general population. In this podcast, we hear from Malcolm Mitchell, author of Avenues 'Relationships, Sex and Sexuality' training workshop on how we can best support people with sexuality and forming intimate relationships.

"People with learning disabilities have the same rights as everyone else, the same complexities, the same types of issues and concerns that all of us do with having intimate relationships".

Plus couple Jacqueline and Martyn, who are both supported by Avenues, tell us how their relationship has grown and thrived supported by Avenues staff

"We like to spend time with each other. We like privacy, when we close the door we don't want anyone to disturb us and staff respect that".
