More recognition for outstanding support services

The Group’s outstanding outreach services in Surrey have won a prestigious Surrey Care Award.

The recognition follows a CQQ inspection of the services delivered by the Welmede team earlier this year. 

The watchdog carried out a wide ranging review of the services, which included out interviewing staff and the people they supported.

The outcome was that the services were rated as outstanding across all five categories of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-Led.

The Surrey Care Awards Panel were also impressed by the range of supporting statements from staff and families.

A parent explained the positive impact of Welmede’s approach on their son:

“Having fought so hard for the past 22 years to ensure his physical, emotional and educational needs were met, I feared my opinions would no longer be taken into consideration. I’ve been relieved to discover that staff seem to get the right balance between respecting our son’s choices and wishes whilst also listening to parents and taking their concerns and views into account.

“When I ask him who’s his favourite support worker is, he responds ‘all of them’.”

A manager said:  “Through my time working for Welmede over the last thirteen years I have been thoroughly looked after as an employee, from my time at the start as a support worker throughout my career progression, to my current role as a cluster manager. I firmly believe that it is that sense of being part of something bigger; something really important, that drives the staff team to want to deliver the best care and support on a daily basis.”

Since the confirmation of the CQC rating, Welmede has worked with other providers to share their best practice, through forums including Skills for Care and the NHS.

Following the news of the Surrey Care Award, Regional Manager Cressida Rapela said: “This is great recognition of all the hard work that staff have put in to the services, and the work that has been done to share our learning with others. It’s something that all staff should take pride in.”
