Working with other organisations
As an organisation, we aim to continuously improve. We build relationships with other organisations to develop or validate our practice and to build networks in order to collaborate or share experience and expertise. Some of the organisations we work with are below.
BILD: We have been accredited under the BILD Physical Interventions Accreditation Scheme since 2010. This enables us to design and deliver our own bespoke and personalised training which complies with the BILD Code of Practice for minimising the use of restrictive physical interventions.
Driving up Quality: We have signed up to Driving up Quality, a voluntary code for providers and commissioners of services for people with learning disabilities.
Investors in People: a management framework to ensure best practice in people management, Avenues has held Investors in People accreditation since 2006.
ISO: Avenues has held ISO certification since 2012:
- ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems evaluates an organisation’s working practices, procedures and processes
- OHSAS 18001 evaluates an organisation’s occupational health and safety practices, procedures and processes
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management demonstrates that we are making a positive statement about our commitment to environmental management
Kent Challenging Behaviour Network: we are a founding member of the network which is made up of professionals working with people with learning disabilities who present challenging behaviour and seeks to promote best practice to improve people’s quality of life.
National Institute for Clinical Excellence: Avenues is a registered stakeholder which means we are able to help develop and influence guidance and quality standards in health and social care.
Surrey Positive Behaviour Support Network: we are a founding member of the network which brings together people with an interest in improving the lives of people with learning disabilities who challenge to learn from each other and develop best practice in positive behaviour support.
Tizard Centre: Avenues has a long history of working with the Tizard Centre at the University of Kent, one of the leading academic groups working in the field of learning disability. We collaborated with the Tizard to roll out person centred active support and have carried out research demonstrating the positive impact of this approach on people’s quality of life. Our employees regularly access learning from the Tizard Centre, we also host placements for its students.
Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB): We're working in collaboration with RNIB to deliver 'Vision Champion' training in the context of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). This will raise awareness of visual impairments and support employees to identify sight loss and subsequently develop meaningful sensory information in people's support plans.
